Priest-in-CHARGE

The Rev. Jo-Ann R. Murphy, D.Min.

We are pleased to announce that the vestry has called The Rev. Jo-Ann Murphy to serve as our Priest-in-Charge for Saint Margaret’s Episcopal Church. She will begin her call with St. Margaret’s on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. The Rev. Jo-Ann Murphy has extensive experience as an Episcopal Priest. She recently served as an Interim Rector at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Laytonsville, Maryland and completed this assignment in July. She was the Associate Rector for Children, Youth and Families for St. Stephen’s Church in Miami, Florida from 2009 to 2020. She was the Director of Christian Formation at Ware Episcopal Church in Gloucester, Virginia and was also Hospice Chaplain for the Hospice of Virginia located in Richmond, VA. 

She has a Doctorate in Ministry from Drew Theological Seminary at Madison, New Jersey and a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary located at Alexandria, Virginia. She brings a wealth and depth of knowledge in conflict resolution and has completed training and has extensive experience for Sacred Ground and for Godly Play. She has a passion for serving Christ and helping others to develop their Christian faith and formation in creative and wonderful activities. In describing herself she says, “My leadership style is collaborative, and I pride myself on building community inside and outside congregations where I work. I especially love forming and nurturing Christian Formation programs for adults and children.”

The Rev. Jo-Ann is a widow and grandmother to five beautiful granddaughters and is a great grandmother as well!
